Team Communication & Messaging

Keep parents informed, share highlights, and build a strong team community — all inside Squad.

The Team Message Thread

Every team has a shared message thread visible to the coach and all parents on the roster. Think of it as a group chat where everyone stays in the loop — no more hunting for the right WhatsApp group or worrying that someone was left out.

Messages are tied to the team, so when a parent's child leaves a team their access to that thread ends automatically.

Sending Your First Message

  1. Open your team from the Coach Dashboard.
  2. Click the Messages tab.
  3. Type your message in the text field at the bottom.
  4. Press Enter or click Send.

All parents on the roster receive a push notification. They can reply directly in the same thread.

Sharing Photos & Images

Squad supports image sharing directly in the message thread. Click the image icon next to the text field, select a photo from your device, and send. This is ideal for:

  • Action shots from games or training
  • Trophy or medal celebrations
  • Maps or directions to an unfamiliar venue
  • Kit or equipment photos
Always get parental consent before sharing photos of players — Squad's thread is visible to all parents, not just the pictured player's family.

Who Can Post Messages?

Both coaches and parents can post in the team thread. Parents can also delete their own messages if needed. As the coach you have visibility over all messages and can use the thread to moderate discussions and keep conversation relevant to the team.

Messaging Best Practices

  • Be consistent — post weekly updates so parents know what to expect from the season.
  • Stay positive — celebrate player milestones, first goals, and team achievements.
  • Keep logistics clear — when sharing event details in messages, always include the date, time, and location even if it's already in the calendar.
  • Avoid information overload — a clear message once a week is more effective than daily noise.
  • Use announcements for urgent updates — "Training cancelled tonight due to rain" should go out as early as possible.

Managing Multiple Teams

If you coach multiple teams, each team has its own separate message thread. Messages sent in one team's thread are never seen by parents of another team. Switch between teams on your dashboard to access each thread.
