Getting Started as a Coach

Everything you need to go from sign-up to running your first practice — in under 10 minutes.

Step 1: Create Your Account

Head to the Squad sign-in page and choose Sign Up. Select Coachas your role and enter your name, email address, and a secure password. Once you verify your email, you're ready to go.

Use the email address parents will recognise — it appears on all invitations you send.

Step 2: Create Your First Team

After signing in you'll land on the Coach Dashboard. Click New Team and fill in:

  • Team name — e.g. "U12 Blue" or "Riverside FC Boys"
  • Sport — soccer, basketball, baseball, or any other sport you coach
  • Season — optional, helps parents know which year the team belongs to

You can create as many teams as you coach. Each team has its own roster, schedule, and messaging thread.

Step 3: Invite Parents & Build Your Roster

Squad uses a parent-first roster model. You invite parents by email; they create an account, add their child, and their child automatically appears on your roster.

  1. Open your team and go to the Roster tab.
  2. Click Invite Parent and enter the parent's email address.
  3. The parent receives an invitation email with a link to join.
  4. Once they accept, their child appears in your roster.
You can send bulk invitations by entering multiple email addresses separated by commas.

Step 4: Schedule Your First Event

Go to the Schedule tab on your team and click Add Event. Choose between a Practice or a Game, then set:

  • Date and start time
  • Location (field name, address, or landmark)
  • Any notes for players and parents

Parents are notified immediately and can RSVP on behalf of their children. You'll see a live attendance count as responses come in.

Step 5: Send Your Welcome Message

Use the team Messages tab to send a welcome note to all parents. This is a great place to share your coaching philosophy, expectations for the season, and contact preferences. Parents can reply and the whole team can see the conversation.

You're All Set

That's the core of Squad for coaches. As the season progresses, use the platform to track attendance, share updates, and keep parents engaged. Need to go deeper?
